Uganda parliament ships in 488 iPads for legislators


 
Uganda’s parliament has shipped in 488 iPads worth $600000 for MPs.

The iPads are meant to facilitate MPs do their work. Speaking at the launching ceremony of the iPads, the speaker of Uganda’s parliament said the MPs will soon be expected to work more efficiently and from any location around the country.

 It was also expected that the MPs would now be able to work from their constituencies.

The speaker; Rt.Hon.Rebecca Kadaga said that the use of the iPads will go a long way in saving on the cost involved in printing of large documents, reports and ministerial policy statements. This statement by Parliament of the Republic of Uganda.

In 2013, the Speaker of Parliament, Ms Rebecca Kadaga, introduced the procurement of iPads for each legislator with the hope of starting a paper-free environment in Parliament and also cut the
House’s expenditure on stationary which was mainly spent on buying paper for printing documents to be presented in the House.
