The award-winning author and celebrated feminist speaker is increasingly becoming a woman of influence. In her hit single Flawless, US celebrity musician Beyoncé quotes Adichie’s speech ‘We Should All Be Feminists’. Adichie in response said they (her and Beyonce) have a different type of feminism but are both effective.
Adichie’s ‘Let’s all be feminist’ slogan was featured on the catwalk, on T-shirts in Maria Grazia Chiuri’s SS17 collection. According to CNN Adichie was seated front row at the fashion show, and her speech was included in the soundtrack.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s ‘We should all be feminists’ book is distributed as a gift to all Swedish high schools. The Swedish Women’s Lobby and Albert Bonniers Förlag have distributed the book, in
Swedish as a stepping stone for a discussion about gender equality and feminism in the country.
Recently, Ghanaian director Akosua Adoma Owusu saied that she will direct a film adaptation of a short story from Adichie’s “The Thing Around Her Neck.”
“Two other works of the Nigerian author have been optioned to become movies: 2014’s Half of a Yellow Sun starring Thandie Newton and Anika Noni Rose; and the Lupita Nyong’o-produced Americanah, which has yet to be released.” Says Essence
Adichie is one of the world’s most popular contemporary feminist voices and an award winning author; Adichie was 26 when her novel Purple Hibiscus was nominated for the Booker Prize and three years later won the Orange Prize for Half a Yellow Sun. Adichie has captured the attention of the world and is on the rise.
