Egypt have been disqualified from participating at the 2017 African Cup of Nations after it was learnt that two of her players tested positive for the use of drugs. Both players tested positive for the use of drugs shortly after the qualifying game against the Super Eagles of Nigeria. According to reports, the two players who tested positive were Mohammed Salah and Mohamed Elneny. They were also handed 14- and seven-month bans, respectively.

While Salah tested positive for the anabolic agent nandrolone and was fined €9,608, Elneny tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinole (carboxy-THC), a metabolite of cannabis, after the game in Alexandria. Following this development, CAF has now issued the AFCON 2017 ticket to Nigeria who finished second behind Egypt in group G, after Tanzania joined Chad to withdraw from the competition.

Happy New Month!
