Access Bank won in top categories on Friday night at the 2016 BusinessDay Banking Awards which held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The bank’s chief executive officer, Herbert Wigwe, emerged the best CEO in 2016 while the bank was also named as the bank of the year.

Also, United Bank for Africa (UBA); First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) and Zenith Bank carted away many awards in different categories.
The night began with a welcome address by Frank Aigbogun, publisher of BusinessDay Newspaper, and a felicitation speech by Akinwunmi Ambode, governor of Lagos state, who was represented by Femi Pedro, former deputy governor of Lagos state.
In his speech, Ambode commended the banks for their successes in spite of the challenging economy. He also extolled their commitment to the growth of the economy.
The awards were presented by Femi Pedro; Nike Akande, president of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI); Uyi Akpata, country and regional senior partner, PwC West Africa; and by Air France.
