History has been made in Africa’s aviation industry.

The first passenger flights using bio-fuel have made the trip between Johannesburg and Cape Town. The plane burns organic fuel extracted from a nicotine-free tobacco plant called Solaris.

The endeavor is the result of a two-and a-half-year partnership between national carrier SAA, Boeing and bio-fuel producers SRK-Energy and Sunchem.
