'You just don't get it! You have to go!': Corbyn clings on despite being savaged by his own MPs

Labour descended into utter chaos last night after an astonishing frontbench walkout over Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership.

The party threatened to split in two as 46 of its most senior MPs resigned in protest at his disastrous handling of the EU referendum.
In the Commons, Labour MPs shouted ‘resign’ as their party leader tried to warn them against ‘internal factional manoeuvring’.
They then savaged him at what was described as a brutal meeting of the Parliamentary Labour Party. Colleagues urged him face to face to quit.

But the 67-year-old has remained defiant throughout the controversy and refuses to quit as leader
Snapshot: Jeremy Corbyn has now suffered an almost complete walk out of his shadow cabinet as 20 full members resigned, followed by at least another 18 more junior figures. Angela Smith and Lord Bassam, both peers, have effectively gone on strike and said they will not attend Cabinet until Mr Corbyn quits

One said the session was a bloodbath, adding: ‘I can’t see how the party doesn’t split.’ Another said: ‘The atmosphere was so vile, if there had been a rope they’d have lynched Corbyn.’
Incredibly, Mr Corbyn emerged to address a rally in Parliament Square, insisting he would not quit.
But today he faces a vote of no confidence which more than 150 of his MPs are expected to back.

The leader’s office denied the allegations.
In his extraordinary show of defiance, Mr Corbyn told his MPs he would never resign, insisting he still had the backing of Labour members.
Supporters staged a show of strength outside Parliament, where hundreds of activists warned MPs they could face deselection if they move against a leader elected by a huge margin just nine months ago.

He appeared in front of a rally of supporters in Westminster today and had to fight his way through a crowd to reach a podium
