People returning from any region across the world where the Zika virus is circulating should practice safe sex for at least six months to avoid the risk of spreading the disease, the World Health Organization (WHO) has advised.

The Zika virus has been reported in two African countries so far, Cape Verde and Guinea Bissau.

WHO said that the advice applies even to those people who have no symptoms of the disease.

This advice comes just a few weeks after doctors discovered the virus in the sperm of an Italian man, six months after he first had the Zika symptoms.

The virus spreads in bodily fluids, though the main risk of catching the disease is from infected mosquitoes via bites.
