The Borno State police command explained that the suspects strapped with Improvised Explosive Devices targeted the mosque in Sulemanti.
According to the Police command, the bombs went off prematurely, killing the two suspects during the midnight Ramadan prayers.
The Borno State Police command spokesman, Mr Isuku Victor, stated that a team of Police Explosives Ordinance Department had been deployed to the scene.
A Civilian Joint Task Force member said Sulemanti ward and the Central Bank Of Nigeria quarters South of the metropolis, were porous with no military posts and patrols at the south flank.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Boko Haram terrorist group had carried out similar attacks in the past.
The group that has been largely decimated by the military in counter-terrorism operations is seeking the establishment of an Islamic State and end to Western education in the region.
It had in 2015 pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.
