IGP Solomon Arase Orders Investigation Into The Murder Of Police

The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has called for calm and assures that justice will prevail following the unfortunate death of a Police officer, ASP Mathew Akpos, who was allegedly killed by operatives of the State Command Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in Bayelsa earlier this month.

This was stated in a press release issued by the Force Public Relation Relations Officer, ACP Olabisi Kolawole in Abuja on Tuesday.
The unfortunate incident triggered protests by aggrieved citizens.
She said that the IGP has called for calm and that the Police authorities have already waded into the matter to ensure that justice is served.

According to her, upon the receipt of the information, the IGP immediately directed that the matter be investigated to ensure justice is served.
Kolawole added that all the Policemen linked with the killing of the officer have been arrested, detained and are presently undergoing investigation, for subsequent prosecution.
“The IGP called on the family and friends of the deceased officer to remain calm and patient as the Police authority will not relent in their efforts to ensure professionalism in carrying out their constitutional assignment.” She said.
