The Ekiti State House of Assembly, on Thursday, suspended the lawmaker representing Ikole Constituency 1, Mr. Gboyega Aribisogan, for 180 legislative days for alleged anti-party activities.

The decision followed the adoption of the recommendation of a seven-man ad hoc panel, chaired by Mr. Jeje Samuel, which investigated allegations of gross misconduct and acts capable of destabilising the Assembly and the state government against him.

The recommendations were submitted to the Ethics and Privileges Committee of the House and adopted at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Kola Oluwawole.
Aribisogan, a former Information Committee Chairman, was also barred from holding any position of responsibility on behalf of the Assembly during his suspension and to lose benefits associated with his office.

The Assembly also ordered him not to be seen in and around the premises of the Assembly within a radius of 1km, demanding that he should submit all properties of the Assembly to the Clerk.
Aribisogan was accused of romancing with the opposition and divulging information to them in the process, an act the lawmakers said was tantamount to anti-party activities.

Specifically, he was accused of having meetings with enemies of the state government and presenting false information, thereby casting aspersions on members of the Assembly and the symbol of the state government.
