The heavy stick of Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) fell on five petrol service stations in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, for selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also referred to as petrol, above the 145 Naira price band recently set by the Federal Government.
The government on May 11 announced a new price band of 145 Naira per litre for petrol, saying it was increased to address the crisis in the sector that had led to the scarcity of petrol.
But some fuel service stations have failed to comply with the new directive, selling above the pump price and making Nigerians face more hardship.
There is huge reliance on petrol for generation of electricity by households and business owners, as the nation of over 160 million population was rationing less than 4,000 megawatts of electricity.
On a raid with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osun, the five fuel service stations were sealed for hoarding, gross under dispensing and selling above 145 Naira per litre.
A delegation from the DPR is in Osun State to ascertain the level of compliance of the fuel station owners in the state to the directive and also to ensure that they are dispensing accurately.
In company of the Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Ayodele Phillips and other officials, the team moved from one fuel station to another.
While some had no products, some others were discovered to be hoarding and selling above pump prices of 145 Naira per litre.
When they arrived at the Oduwoye and Brothers fuel station, although 145 Naira was boldly written on the pump, they were actually selling at 150 Naira.
